Henderson War Memorial Committee Providing Christmas for Vets
- Submitted by Ken Christopher
The Henderson War Memorial Foundation will provide Christmas gifts for the 91 Veterans who are residents of the Western Kentucky Veterans Center in Hanson, Kentucky. The Mission of the Henderson War Memorial Foundation is to foster patriotism, support our armed forces, honor and support military Veterans and their families, and most of all to help ensure that all those who have served and sacrificed in the nation’s military services so that the rest of us may live in liberty are not forgotten – and certainly, not during the holidays.
Each Veteran will receive a shirt with the emblem of the individual’s branch of service, in addition to other personal gifts. In addition, the Foundation plans to purchase a juke box for the Veteran’s recreation room. The Foundation Board and members of American Legion Worsham Post 40 also plan to spend time with the Center’s Veterans sharing stories and camaraderie.
The Western Kentucky Veterans Center (WKVC) opened 14 March 2002 in Hanson, Kentucky. Situated on 33 acres of beautiful farmland 5 miles north of Madisonville, the 156-bed facility provides long-term skilled nursing care for Kentucky's Veterans of the Armed Forces of the United States. The Center is not a VA facility, but is operated by the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The WKVC is a beautiful, clean, well-staffed facility for Kentucky’s senior citizen Veterans.
