Evansville to Host the 2024 Missouri Valley Conference Baseball Championship
For the first time since 1998, the Missouri Valley Conference Baseball champion will be crowned in the Tri-State.
When it comes to finding a location to host a sports championship, Evansville has become a popular choice over the last several years. The Ohio Valley Conference has used the Ford Center to host its men's and women's basketball tournaments since 2018 and will return in 2024 after announcing earlier this year it would exercise the option in its contract with the city to return for at least one more year. We've also hosted the Division II Elite Eight basketball for several years, and it was announced that due to a scheduling conflict with Gainbridge Fieldhouse, the IHSAA state wrestling tournament will relocate here in February of 2024. There's no doubt that the city's hospitality has played a huge role in the decisions by the organizers of those events to return year after year. I imagine having a premiere venue such as the Ford Center doesn't hurt either.
Evansville to Host 2024 Missouri Valley Conference Baseball Championship
On Tuesday, the University of Evansville Athletic Department announced another premiere championship series will be coming to town in 2024 when teams from the Missouri Valley Conference will converge on the city to determine its conference champion in baseball.
The University last hosted the tournament at Bosse Field 25 years ago back in 1998 and has been working toward bringing it back for the past several years. One key element in making that happen was the installation of the full Astroturf field and other renovations at German American Bank at Charles H. Braun Stadium on campus. The field will serve as the location for all games of the tournament.
2024 Missouri Valley Conference Baseball Tournament Information
The tournament will run from May 21st through 25th and will feature eight of the league's top 10 teams in a double-elimination-style tournament. UE was one win away from advancing to the championship game in this year's tournament and no doubt looks to win the whole thing on their home field next year.
As with all tournaments the city hosts, the 2024 MVC Baseball Championship is expected to bring a considerable boost to the economy as teams and fans make their way to town over the course of the five-day event.
