Drone Photographer Captures Stunning Lightning Photo Over University of Southern Indiana
Severe weather season has been off to an active start in southern Indiana since the season officially turned from winter to spring. Wednesday was no different with not one, but two rounds of storms sweeping across the area. While the second round Wednesday afternoon packed more potential to cause damage (it did stir up one tornado warning in Spencer County and another in southwestern Kentucky), the first round did bring an impressive light show which one USI employee captured while filming the storm front with his drone.
Michael Fetscher is the Digital Media Coordinator at USI and a drone photography enthusiast. As a member of the West Side Nut Club, Mike uses his drone to snap incredible photos high above Franklin Street during the annual West Side Nut Club Fall Festival, like this one.
He also likes to use it to capture stunning sunset photos like this:
He'll also use his talents to capture impressive, panoramic photos of incoming weather systems. He managed to snag this one of the second storm system that moved in Wednesday afternoon as it barrelled its way toward the west side of Evansville.
But it's the picture below from the first round of storms Wednesday morning that really caught my eye when it showed up in my Facebook feed.
How wild is that? It looks like a scene out of Stranger Things. All it needs is Vecna and Eleven battling it out on the roundabout.
A huge thanks to Mike for letting me share these photos.
