An exciting development is coming to downtown Evansville, CenterPoint Energy Square. Remember the park at 4th & Main street in downtown Evansville?  It's needed updates for a long time now, and for a while has been sitting closed to the public. Now new life is coming to the Main street walkway and I think it's exactly what downtown Evansville needs.

The City of Evansville Parks and Recreation Department announced they were the recipients of a $1,000,000 (that's one entire million dollars!) grant to renovate the old park at Fourth and Main street.  The grant comes from the CenterPoint Energy Foundation, and the plans they have for this upcoming park are very exciting.  Here's what the Downtown Evansville Economic Improvement District said about the upcoming project:

ANNOUNCEMENT: $1 million grant from the CenterPoint Energy Foundation to renovate park at 4th and Main
The City of Evansville Parks and Recreation Department today announced a $1 million grant from the CenterPoint Energy Foundation to renovate the park at Fourth and Main Street.
"We’re grateful for the CenterPoint Energy Foundation’s investment in Downtown Evansville," said Mayor Lloyd Winnecke. “This park will be a wonderful addition to our revitalization efforts, and will complement the upcoming development around the block.”
CenterPoint Energy Square will have room for a farmer’s market, outdoor dining, live music events, and community meetings. It will also will have a large green space that will be turned into an ice-skating rink during winter months.
CenterPoint Energy President and CEO Dave Lesar said "Vibrant Main Streets and public spaces are vital to the economic growth of a region. We're committed to the growth and development of Evansville and to improve the quality of life for both current and future residents."
Construction on the park will be coordinated with the 4th & Sycamore and 5th & Main Street projects beginning early 2022.
The pictures of this project are awesome too! It looks like we'll be seeing some truly state-of-the-art updates coming to downtown Evansville.

Our offices at 103 GBF are located downtown, less than a block off the Main street walkway. I spend many lunch breaks taking a walk down main, checking out the Market on Main, and enjoying a stroll downtown. This will be such a great addition to downtown, I'm excited to take my lunch breaks and walk down to enjoy a nice meal at CenterPoint Energy Square, and just enjoy some fresh air in the middle of my workday. This truly will be such an asset to downtown Evansville, and I cannot wait to see it completed!
