Nobody wants to live in a city that is considered "dangerous" right?

What if a city you never thought of as that dangerous made the list one of the "most dangerous" in Illinois?

That happened when I came across Illinois' 25 Most Dangerous Cities for 2023 list from Crime Data.io because I was stunned when I saw what was ranked 2nd.

If you instantly think Chicago or Rockford is top 25, hold up because neither made the list,

According to Crime Date.io, "Our ranking system is based on the total number of crimes reported in each city. We then calculated the crime rate per 100,000 population for each city."

That means that Chicago, based on those metrics isn't one of the "most dangerous" in the state and for that matter, neither is Rockford.

So then what is the most dangerous city in Illinois?

Statistics show Cahokia in St. Clair County as the most dangerous in the state.

Crime Data.io:

Cahokia is an area in St. Clair, Illinois with population of 12,440. The total crime rate in Cahokia is based on the nearest law agency agency, Sauget Police Department (IL0822200). Cahokia total crime rate is 40,538 per 100,000 population, compared to Illinois average of 4,012.91 per 100,000 population and United States average of 2,912.43 per 100,000 population.

I've never been to Cahokia so It's hard for me to speak on whether it deserves the label as "most dangerous" in the Land of Lincoln but I can say I was certainly surprised to see Oak Brook listed second.

I was kind of surprised when I noticed crime occurs in Oak Brook, nearly 29% higher than the state average and over 75% more often versus the US average per Crime Data.io's findings.
