Dan + Shay Are Getting Their Workout on With New Grammy Award
Dan + Shay had a incredibly memorable 2019 Grammy Awards, with their first Grammy win and a show-stopping performance of their song "Tequila." The duo say it was the time of their lives.
"I didn't know these Grammys are so heavy, I'm getting my bicep curls in right now," the duo's Dan Smyers joked backstage at a post-show press conference.
In seriousness, he says, the night meant everything. "What an honor — all of the incredible artists performing on the stage, we feel not worthy. This is such a prestigious show, we've watched it every single year growing up," he says in footage above, captured backstage. "To just be here for the first time is a dream come true, let alone winning our first award and getting to perform on the show is absolutely incredible. It all feels like a whirlwind right now."

Shay Mooney also divulged that Dan + Shay are in fact working on new music.
"We're always working on something, we're always trying to write new music," he says. "I haven't stopped writing since the first time we wrote a song. Definitely, some new music coming, we don't know when. Whenever it's right we'll definitely put it out."
After their Grammys performance, the duo presented an award to Drake for winning for his single "God's Plan," but the rapper unfortunately got cut off mid-speech. When asked what he was saying, Mooney joked, "Shay is my favorite and I voted for you guys."
Smyers shared his excitement on the chance to meet Drake, adding, "We're huge rap and hip-hop fans, we were kind of starstruck when we met Drake — I shook his hand and that was a cool moment for me, also something I'll never forget. Hopefully my wife got a picture of that out in the crowd."
During their performance of "Tequila," the duo went a little off-script, with Mooney holding the final note for what felt like forever. Even he admits he almost passed out.
"I was thinking like, 'I'm going to try and hold that note at the end until I pass out.' I think I almost did I think I may be passed out right now, I don't know if this is all real," he says.
The duo couldn't stress enough how the 2019 Grammys were a full-circle moment and how many moments that day they will never forget.
