‘Daddy’s Home 2’ Trailer: Time to Meet the Granddaddies
Now that Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg’s dads have got their “co-dad game on lockdown,” it’s time to shake things up for the holidays. The first trailer for Daddy’s Home 2, aka Sofia Coppola’s most anticipated film of the year, has arrived and it’s brought the grandaddy of all problems — literally — along with it. Yep, grandpa’s comin’ home and he’s Mel Gibson.
In the sequel to 2015’s surprisingly solid comedy (well, not that surprising — Ferrell and Wahlberg make a weirdly great comedic pairing), the daddy duo have become successful co-dads — so much so that they’ve decided to spend Christmas together as one giant family. There’s just one problem: Wahlberg’s dad is also coming, and he’s not exactly the most pleasant man. He’s not like a regular granddad, he’s a cool granddad — if “cool” means “terrifying.” Further complicating things is the arrival of Ferrell’s own father, played by John Lithgow. Christmas is gonna be a problem.
The official synopsis is short and sweet: “Two men (Will Ferrell, Mark Wahlberg) must deal with their intrusive fathers (Mel Gibson, John Lithgow) during the holidays.” Yeah, that’s about right.
Daddy’s Home 2 also features the return of Linda Cardellini and John Cena, and arrives on November 10 — giving you plenty of time to take your own daddies and grandaddies to the theater, where they will hopefully learn something about keeping things chill during the holidays. (Or maybe you can all just bond over the fact that your family is not that messed up.)
