CDC Proclaims Romaine Lettuce Safe to Eat Again
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention has given the all clear on romaine lettuce. Any lettuce being sold now and not from Yuma, Arizona thus it's unlikely to be carry E. coli bacteria.
The E. coli outbreak stemming from romaine harvested in Yuma made 172 people sick in 32 states including one case in Kentucky, and one person died during the outbreak.
The last romaine shipments from Yuma went out on April 16th. Due to the vegetable's 21-day shelf life it's not likely any lettuce sold now would contain the bacteria.
It was the worst outbreak of of E. coli since 2006 when tainted spinach sickened more than 270 and killed three people.
