Burn Ban in Effect for Several Southern Indiana Counties
Remember when we couldn't get the rain to stop in the early part of 2016? Fast forward to the last month or so, and now we can seem to get it to start. The lack of precipitation in the area has led area Commissioner Boards to establish a burn ban for several counties in our area.
The ban went into effect Saturday for Vanderburgh, Warrick, Spencer, Pike, and Dubois Counties.
Each ban is in effect until "rescinded by the Board" according to the Indiana Department of Homeland Security.
What does this mean for you? It's pretty simple really. Don't burn anything outside until the Board of Commissioners say it's OK to do so. This means, no burning leaves after you rake them, and no starting a fire in your fire pit to roast marshmallows over on a weekend night. The concern, of course, is the lack of moisture in the ground, coupled with dead grass and leaves, sends the risk of a hot ember hitting the ground and starting a blaze skyrocketing.
