The Covered Bridge Capital of the World Now Has Another Accolade
Parke County, Indiana, is home to 31 covered bridges, making it the "covered bridge capital of the world." Think about it, there are currently less than 1,000 covered bridges left in the United States, so the fact that 31 are located in one county in Indiana, is really impressive! But there's more than just covered bridges in Parke County; the county is also home to several incredible hiking trails, but one stands out as it was named among the best hiking trails in the midwest.

Midwest Living Names Trail #3 Among the Best in the Midwest
There are many trails you can tackle at Turkey Run State Park, from easy trails for casual hiking fans to rough terrain for the biggest hiking enthusiasts. Midwest Living named this trail among the best in the region due to its stunning rock formations, beautiful waterfalls, and glacial potholes (those are a real thing).

Trail #3 at Turkey Run State Park is considered a rugged trail that may be harder for folks with disabilities, medical issues, and young children. However, if you are able, this is a trail you need to put on your must-hike list!
Here is what Turkey Run State Park has to say about Trail #3:
This is a very rugged 1.7-mile trail that offers some unusual hiking opportunities. Following the cliffs along Sugar Creek, Trail 3 passes by the Ice Box. It then turns north and follows between the steep walls of Bear Hollow before returning to the ridgetop by a series of ladders. Be very careful!
Trail 3 later takes you to the Punch Bowl, a pothole that was scoured out by glacial erratics caught in the swirling backwash. The trail then follows between the steep walls of Rocky Hollow, along a creek, and past Wedge Rock on the way back to the Suspension Bridge.
