America's Largest Underground Lake

Did you know that the largest underground lake in the country is located in Tennessee? Not only will this experience give you the chance to go underground and explore a cave, but you'll also get to explore the largest underground lake in America. The lake is so big you can even take a boat ride on it.  An underground boat ride certainly sounds like a unique boating experience.

The Lost Sea Adventure

Located south of Knoxville in Sweetwater, Tennessee is The Lost Sea Adventure.  The Lost Sea Adventure is a part of a cave system, that you can tour on your way to visit the underground lake.

Deep inside a mountain near Sweetwater in East Tennessee is a remarkable body of water known as The Lost Sea. Listed by the Guinness Book of World Records as America’s largest underground lake, the Lost Sea is part of an extensive and historic cave system called Craighead Caverns

The tour will start with a guided cavern tour that will be around 3/4 of a mile round-trip.  While walking through the cave you'll learn about the different formations and the geological development of the caverns.  Once you reach the bottom of the cave you'll hop on a boat and take a ride on The Lost Sea.

More Than Just a Boat Ride

Of course one of the most unique aspects of this vacation destination is that you can take a boat ride underground, which is quite a unique experience.  But there are also other fun things to do in the area. According to The Lost Sea Adventure's website, there is even a Lost Sea Village with plenty of shops and things to do.  You can enjoy the Lost Sea General Store or take a hike on The Lost Sea Nature Trail.
