After Months of Recovering from a Gunshot Wound, Evansville Rescue Finds Home for Paralyzed Dog, Ruger!
It Takes a Village No-Kill Rescue, took on Ruger back in February. You see Ruger has a pretty amazing story, and today he's celebrating because he found his forever home!
Back in February 1 year old Ruger came to It Takes a Village No-Kill Rescue with a pretty big problem. You see Ruger's owner got involved in a shootout with police, he shot, and police returned fire. Police did not realize Ruger was in the car. When they approached the vehicle they found a very calm dog in the backseat.
Ruger unfortunately did suffer a gunshot wound, but lucky for him, it wasn't fatal. However the gunshot did hit his spine, and paralyzed his back end. A responding officer to the call immediately rushed Ruger to the vet and saved his life. When It Takes a Village heard Ruger's story they knew they had to help.
Since then Ruger has been recovering at ITV, he's been going through some pretty intense therapy, and that officer that rescued him even came by ITV to donate a wheelchair for Ruger. Unfortunately after taking him to a specialist recently they learned Ruger will never walk again using his hind legs, and will remain paralyzed, but with the help of his wheelchair, and some understand humans to take care of him, he can still live a happy a full life.
I had the opportunity to meet this sweet boy at ITV's Mardi Paws dinner, and boy is he just the sweetest happiest boy! Other than the fact he walks with a cart attached to him, you'd never know he was having any issues!
Today he celebrates because he was officially adopted!
There's truly a home for every kind of dog, and I'm so glad Ruger found his! Best of luck sweet boy!
