We love watching movies because of the way they make us feel. Movies get our hearts pumping and adrenaline flowing, they have us on the edge of our seats and hiding under the blankets, they make our sides hurt from the laughter, and they make us cry like a baby. In this article, I'm focusing on that last emotion, as I share more than two dozen movies that hit us right in the feels.

When Was the Last Time You "Ugly" Cried?

From heart-warming stories of love and loss to touching tales of triumph over adversity, movies do a great job reminding us of how cathartic it is to be emotionally vulnerable in the safety of a dark theater or on our couch at home. But I'm not interested in movies that just make you "shed a few tears" - no, this list is about the flicks that have made or continue to make us ugly cry.

I'm talking about red, puffy eyes, cheeks smeared with running mascara (if applicable), and a nose that can't decide whether to run or be stopped up. The kind of cry that comes from the depth of your soul and once started is beyond your control, and there is nothing pretty about it. We've all been there, whether voluntarily or unexpectedly, with the help of certain movies.

I don't have any need to rewatch a movie once I know it makes me cry. Why would I want to relive that kind of experience? Life has the potential to make me cry enough the way it is - I certainly don't need to seek it out. There are, however, people who I guess are just gluttons for punishment and will intentionally watch a movie that they know has that effect on them. Whatever floats your boat, I guess.
