2023 Polar Plunge in Boonville to Benefit Special Olympics Indiana
The chilly annual event. Polar Plunge returns to Boonville, Indiana in 2023. Here's everything you need to know to be a part of it.
Throughout the state of Indiana, there are 15 different Polar Plunge events. Combined, they support 16,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities. During the past 24 years, Polar Plunge events have raised more than $10 million to support Special Olympics Indiana’s athletes and programs. For those who don't know, this event is where individuals and teams come together to take an ice-cold dip into the chilly waters of Scales Lake during the winter for a great cause.
Polar Plunge at Scales Lake 2023
The annual Polar Plunge at Scales Lake will be on February 3rd and 4th this year. According to a press release:

Plungers who raise the $85 minimum will earn a commemorative long-sleeved T-shirt. For those who reach higher fundraising levels, additional prizes will include a metal tumbler, beach towel, and more. Plus, the Virtual Plunge program is perfect for anyone who wants to join in the fun without getting their feet wet. Virtual Plungers are eligible to receive the same fundraising prizes, and on Plunge day, they can stay warm and dry while cheering on Polar Plunge participants from the shore.

Additionally, the Super Plunger program recognizes the bravest souls with the warmest hearts. Those who raise $4,000 or more and plunge at two sites will receive VIP treatment at the final event of the season as well as the top fundraising prize — a baseball-themed Polar Plunge jersey available exclusively for Super Plungers.

I've known so many people throughout the years who have participated, and despite the cold water, all have said the experience was well worth it. The fundraising event begins on January 28th, with our local event in Boonville taking place on February 3rd and 4th. Registration will be held from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at Boonville High School cafeteria with the Plunge to follow at noon at Scales Lake Park.
