10 Things You Should Do Before Fall Actually Arrives In Illinois
There are so many things we don't think of doing before a new season comes around. I know we're all procrastinating, so I'm here to save the day and get you ahead of the game!
Now that I'm moved out of my parents house, I finally realized there are certain things Illinois people do to make sure they're ready for spring, summer, fall, and winter. Whether it's chores around the house, putting away seasonal outfits, or drinking coffee only in fall and winter, there's always something to get done during each season.
There's no handbook... well, not that I know of. So, the past 3 years I've compiled a list of things I tend to do to prepare for fall weather and I think I'm ready to share the entire list with you!
10 Things You Should Do Before Fall Actually Arrives In Illinois
#1: Whip out the plaid pajama sets
Wearing flannels or plaid in the fall always makes me feel a little more festive. I'm not much of a bandwagon person, but fall gets me feelin' all types of ways.
#2: Dust off the pumpkin-spiced candles from storage
Honestly, all year around I burn pumpkin or vanilla scented candles, but what better time to light them up than right before the leaves start changing?
#3: Wash your windows inside & outside
Let's get practical here. You know you want to get outside and work around the house when it gets chilly, so get a head start now!
#4: Throw out those old razors, No Shave November is near
Typically guys do this, but who's to say who has to opt out? It'll be cold anyway, leg hair will keep you extra warm.. just like a bear hibernating.
#5: Book an appointment for winter tires
I didn't even know this was a thing until my dad yelled at me about it. Winter tires are so important and I totally understand why now!
#6: Plan your Halloween costumes NOW
We're not shut down anymore and Illinois peeps know how to party. Get to planning, it'll be here sooner than you know it!
#7: Wash all your favorite, cozy blankets
If you don't want your heating bill to skyrocket, get your blankets ready. Layers and layers of blankets will save you from breaking the bank!
#8: Find some delicious recipes for sweater weather
Chili, warm apple pies, and stuffing will do the trick.
#9: Yard work means... raking leaves
My parents have like 7 different size rakes in their garage. Why? Because their yard is so big they need backups. Stock up before the prices go up!!!
And the final thing you should do before fall sneaks up on us is....
#10: GET READY FOR SWEATER WEATHER!
If you're from Illinois, you know dang well you have more sweaters in your closet than summer clothes. I'm guilty of it. Plan your cute outfits for the Apple Orchards so you don't have to stress later!
If you have any other ideas on how to prepare for this fall, feel free to start your own list and send it to me! I need more adulting tips, I'm new at this y'all.
