Calling all graduating high school seniors! I know I don't have to tell you how expensive a college education is, but I am here to help.  I found a list of some interesting scholarships you can apply for to help make it more affordable and hopefully avoid having to rely on a Ramen noodle diet.

Of course, there are scholarships for academics and community service which are great, but what about students who love to doodle? Or students with an interest in asparagus? If you love crossword puzzles, there is a scholarship for you!

I recently came across a list of weird scholarships compiled by Hip2Save.  I was surprised to find so many "unconventional" opportunities to fund a college education. The more the merrier as far as I'm concerned. No one wants to be burdened with student loans upon graduation.

There are other websites like Unigo.com with thousands of applications and essay prompts where you can search for scholarships you might be eligible for. Some are based on the specific field you're going into. Others, like the ones listed below, look like fun to write about, but if you want to avoid essays, those are out there too.

Tips for Applying for Scholarships

Be sure to check eligibility requirements such as graduation date, commitment to a university, whether the scholarship requires an interview, etc. to be sure it is right for you. The most important thing is being able to meet the application deadline with all the necessary information provided. Of course, you'll want to proofread your essays for grammar and spelling. It's also a good idea to make a copy of each application for your records.
