Evansville is 200 years old and Downtown is still not Finished! Just kidding, in all seriousness it has been 200 years since Hugh McGary bought 200 acres along the Ohio River that is now Part of Downtown Evansville. Our city is now the third largest city in the state and has gorwn into something that McGary probably never dreamed. We have the history of the shipyards, the military planes built in what became the Whirlpool plant. Lewis & Clark floated by Evansville during their journey on the Ohio River, even Abraham Lincoln had a river view of the city before he became the 16th President of the United States.

It would take far too much space to chronicle all Evansville has done and will do way into the future. The Courier Press ran a great piece on the city's history in honor of the bicentennial. Click here to read that story from the Courier Press and happy birthday Evansville, here's to another 200 years....cheers!
