One website has found the strangest food in Indiana. It's actually sold at the West Side Nut Club Fall Festival this week, but it isn't the food that you might think.

The first full week in October is the annual West Side Nut Club Fall Festival. This is the 102nd year for the event where people from all over crowd Franklin Stree in Evansville to enjoy some delicious food. The Fall Festival has a wide array of food items available for the festival goers that they normally wouldn't be able to find anywhere else. We are talking about food items such as Pronto Pups, Donut Burgers, Meat Wads, Zombie Burgers, Chicken Fried Bacon, Pig Shots, and more! It's safe to say that one of the most (if not the most) popular and strange food options they have there is the Brain Sandwich, which is basically fried pork brain on buns with your choice of toppings. You either like them or you refuse to try them.

However, that isn't what was named as the strangest food in Indiana, according to one website. That being said, what they did claim as our strangest food is also found at the Fall Festival.

The Strangest Food in Indiana

The website, 24/7 Wall St. recently found the strangest food in each state, and here's how they came to their results:

24/7 Tempo has assembled a list of some of the strangest foods not just at fairs but in America in general, state by state, by reviewing articles on the subject in a wide range of publications, including <a href="http://www.mashed.com/" target="_blank">Mashed</a>, <a href="http://spoonuniversity.com/" target="_blank">Spoon University</a>, <a href="http://www.travelchannel.com/" target="_blank">Travel Channel</a>, <a href="http://blog.cheapish.com/" target="_blank">Cheapism</a>, and <a href="http://www.bizarrefood.com/" target="_blank">Bizarre Food</a>.

So, if the Brain Sandwich wasn't named as Indiana's strangest food, what was? Well, that honor goes to Sauerkraut Balls. These are a very popular food item at the West Side Nut Club Fall Festival that you can find at the Evansville Germania Maennerchor booth each year.

Fermented cabbage isn’t the first thing you’d think of deep frying – unless you were a Hoosier. Associated with the state fair and with the Indianapolis 500, these are a mix of sauerkraut, pork sausage, and cream cheese, with mustard added, formed into spheres, breaded, and plunged into boiling oil until crisp and brown.

I'm not going to lie, I'm a little surprised that these beat out the Brain Sandwich as the strangest food in Indiana, but what do I know? How do you feel about Sauerkraut Balls?

16 Indiana Towns with Dirty-Sounding Names

A majority of these towns were given their names in the mid-to-late 1800s as settlers making their way across the country found unclaimed plots of land and decided to make them their own. While I imagine they thought the names they came up with were innocent, and perhaps a tribute to something in their lives, pop culture has warped our minds to the point since then that we can't help but think of something about the town that was never intended by its founders. Take a look at this list. I guarantee there's at least one name that will make you chuckle.
