Barbie, the overly generous proportioned mistress of the townhouse, was first introduced to the world on March 9th, 1959. And, since she has sparked the  imagination of little girls for more than 50 years,  she gets her own day.

Kaylee Rider is seven years-old and wears a scarf on her head because she is bald from battling cancer. The Austin, Texas second grader recently started a campaign to get Mattel to produce a cancer Barbie. Video Here

As a 16-year-old, Galia Slayen made a life-size Barbie out of wood, chicken wire, paper-mache and -- of course -- two big balloons as way to deal with her anorexia. Now, four years later, Slayen is a sophomore at Hamilton College and is using the massive (but freakishly slim) doll she built to start a conversation about eating disorders and body image issues.
