Scotty McCreery Thinks Keith Urban Is an ‘Interesting’ Addition to ‘American Idol’

When it comes to Keith Urban‘s position as a newly-appointed judge on Season 12 of ‘American Idol,’ Scotty McCreery believes that there is no better man for the job.
Considering McCreery’s track record as the tenth hopeful to be crowned America’s supreme singer on the long-running reality television series, it’s safe to assume the Australian superstar will take the ‘Water Town Town’ singer’s endorsement to heart.
“I think it’s cool,” McCreery tells Billboard of Urban’s inclusion (quote via Digital Spy). “I think it will be interesting to see Keith Urban out there in the middle of Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey. It will be interesting to see how he handles that.”
Things have already gotten “interesting” on the set of ‘American Idol,’ even before the new season has aired. Last month, Urban was caught in the middle of a bitter war of words between Minaj and Carey, which ultimately led to rumors that the ‘For You’ singer was contemplating quitting his high-profile prime time gig.
Luckily for millions of country music fans eager to see Urban on the small screen on a weekly basis starting in January, said murmurings about the singer’s resignation were proved false by Urban himself.
“I love it,” says the singer. “I gotta say, I love working with passionate people. I love artists, and I like everyone just sort of expressing themselves. It’s a very alive, very invigorating work environment.”
“There’s a learning curve in any job, right?” Urban says more than a month after the on-set incident. “We’re just getting our grooves. We’re like four people on the dance floor stepping on each others toes until we get the hang of it.”
Season 12 of ‘American Idol’ kicks off on the FOX network on Jan. 16 with a jam-packed two-hour episode. The show will return to the airwaves the following night with a follow-up hour-long episode.
