The Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade is just one week away and a big controversy has erupted over one float paying homage to Sea World. The Macy's Thanksgiving parade has  been a staple for decades and a true tradition for many families throughout the U.S. Macy's has always tried to stay away from politics and controversy in terms of the parade. The parade is all about fun and entertainment and the main fixtures of the parade are the iconic giant balloon floats featuring the likes of Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Scooby-Doo, SpongBob SquarePants, Kermit the Frog and Shrek, just to name a few.

This year, animal activists, including members of PETA plan to to protest a Sea World float at points along the parade route because of a new documentary that accuses Sea World of treating whales badly. The float depicts Sea World's main attraction, Shamu the killer whale, rolling waves and tropical fish. See a photo of the float here.

Really....why??? The Macy's Thanksgiving parade is supposed to be about entertainment, fun and families and the fact is, many families flock to Sea World and have done done so for many generations, which is one reason Sea World is one of the premiere theme parks in America, if not the world.

The Sea World float looks great and I'm certain it is not meant to offend in any way shape or form and fits the theme of the parade beautifully. The float is very representative of what Sea World is and the image of Shamu seemingly jumping up out of the water is an iconic image that people, especially kids, identify with immediately and just know it's Shamu.

Can't we just enjoy Thanksgiving and the Macy's parade in peace? What do you think?
