New Film Shooting in KY Seeking 'Specialty' Performers as Extras

And "floodgates" seems as apt as any term I could use to describe what's happened in Kentucky over the past 12 or 13 months. That Kentucky Entertainment Incentive--a tax break for filmmakers that's behind a quick jumpstart of a lot of projects in the Commonwealth--is performing above and beyond the call of duty.

In the spring of 2022, there was the Orlando Bloom movie. Later in the fall and into the winter months of 2023, Ethan Hawke and his tech crew and actors were common sights in Louisville and Shelbyville. Earlier in 2023, Somerset KY became so attractive to Lifetime after the network shot a Christmas movie there that it will return for five more projects.

Show business is booming in the Bluegrass State. I absolutely love. I've been figuratively shouting from the rooftops about how perfect Kentucky is for making movies--in terms of atmosphere and charm--and now members of that industry can't seem to get here quick enough.

The newest project is called Millie and the film shoot is scheduled to last through July 18th.

And this particular production is in need of "specialty" performers as extras. Casting agents and producers are looking for circus and carnival performers between the ages of 18 and 65. A public group known as Louisville Filmmaking Group (LFG Films) has posted specifics:

Who is 'Millie' Besides the Subject of a New Film Shooting in Kentucky?

Yes, you can count me among those who have never heard of her, but it seems Millie (Mildred) Burke may have actually been a PIONEER in women's wrestling.

Since hardly anyone knows very many details about the film itself, I'm guessing that Louisville has once again proven its mettle as a go-to location for period pieces. There are plenty of areas that continued to be maintained decade in and decade out.

I also consider it a big positive that movies being filmed in Kentucky--or specifically Louisville--aren't necessarily SET in Kentucky. I take that as meaning the sky's the limit.
