What is Kunstfest?

Kunstfest you may notice has a very German ring to it and that's because the festival is a celebration of German heritage and art. As "kunst" means "art" in German. During the festival vendors will be lining the streets of New Harmony showcasing all kinds of things from art to antiques, to crafts, and much more.

Kunstfest 2023

New Harmony's biggest event of the year, Kunstfest will return the third weekend in September, taking place Saturday, September 16th, and Sunday, September 17th. If you've never been before, Kunstfest is one festival you won't want to miss. For one it's set in quaint little New Harmony which is such a cool town in its own right, and there's plenty to do to keep you occupied at Kunstfest.

Did you say German food?

Is your stomach grumbling already? I know mine is! Don't worry there will be plenty of German food served up during Kunstfest, and plenty of beer on tap!

Be sure to come hungry! We plan to have all of your German favorites — bratwurst, kraut balls, kuchen, apple cider, chicken and dumplings, German potato salad, brain sandwiches, fried bologna, ice cream, kettle corn and more! New Harmony also has delightful restaurants, bars, and a coffee shop that will be open during the weekend.
Plus, there will be a beer garden at Black Lodge Coffee Roasters!

Live Entertainment and More

Kunstfest will take place the third weekend of September from 9 AM to 5 PM on Saturday, and 9 AM to 4 PM on Sunday. On top of several musicians playing everything from bluegrass to German folk music to polka, there will also be historical craft demonstrations.

One of the most popular attractions at Kunstfest is the group of historical craft demonstrations. Each year, children stand in awe as they watch experts demonstrate blacksmithing, rope making, pottery, weaving, spinning and more. Some of these creations will be available for sale, and demonstrators will be present to explain the art of each craft to audiences.

To find the best beer in each state and Washington D.C., Stacker analyzed January 2020 data from BeerAdvocate, a website that gathers user scores for beer in real-time. BeerAdvocate makes its determinations by compiling consumer ratings for all 50 states and Washington D.C. and applying a weighted rank to each. The weighted rank pulls the beer toward the list's average based on the number of ratings it has and aims to allow lesser-known beers to increase in rank. Only beers with at least 10 rankings to be considered; we took it a step further to only include beers with at least 100 user rankings in our gallery.
