Justin Moore Turns Show Into Powerful Vigil for Connecticut Shooting Victims
Justin Moore must have had a tough time concentrating on his show in Jacksonville, Fla. on Friday night (Dec. 14). After a national tragedy struck Newtown, Conn. when a young man broke into an elementary school and killed 27 people, many children, Moore had to stop and weep with America.
News of the shooting spread quickly, when the nation learned together that 20-year-old Adam Lanza went on a shooting spree in Sandy Hook Elementary School, ending the lives of six adults and 20 young kids.
In the middle of his fun performance, Moore paused and asked his audience to turn on their phones and hold them up to give off a little bit of light. Then he started singing his hit tune ‘If Heaven Wasn’t So Far Away,’ which speaks of visiting those who’ve left us up in heaven. The result was touching for not only the thousands of fans in attendance, but all of us who felt a shadow of sadness from the tragic news.
Moore is always one to try and lend a hand when tragedy strikes. Just a few weeks ago, he joined up with several other country stars to host a special benefit for victims of Hurricane Sandy. The event took place at the Wild Horse Saloon in Nashville and raised more than $20,000. The proceeds went to the Jersey Shore Relief Fund, as well as Moore’s publicist, Carly Caramanna, who fell victim to the recent Hurricane Sandy devastation.
It looks like all of the singer’s good karma is coming back to him. Moore’s current album ‘Outlaws Like Me’ recently went gold, and his single ‘Til My Last Day’ has been rising up the charts.
