It's NOT a Trap: How to Celebrate Star Wars Day in Kentucky

"May the Fourth be with you" is a phrase being uttered by more and more people every year on May 4. It's actually somewhat funny how a dad joke turned into an international day of celebration for science fiction fans, but believe me, I'm not complaining. I have loved Star Wars since I could crawl. In fact, one of my favorite memories is seeing Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith in theaters with my dad on my sixth birthday. Since then, I've seen every Star Wars movie on the big screen and have enjoyed streaming the new content on Disney+ immensely.

If you're as big a fan of George Lucas's creation as I am, then you're going to love some of these events happening in Kentucky this weekend. There is something for all ages available at each one, and even if you don't like Star Wars (insert audible gasp), I'm sure you'll be able to enjoy them. Who knows? You might even become a fan by the time it's all said and done.

Henderson

The Henderson County Library is set to hold its Star Wars Day Celebration on Saturday, May 4, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. The organizers plan to have several activities on hand, such as trivia, a costume contest, a photo booth, and even Jedi training. I'll be honest; I don't know what this entails or if it's BYOL (Bring Your Own Lightsaber), but it sounds like it's going to be a lot of fun.

Bowling Green

Flea Land of Bowling Green

Flea Land of Bowling Green will also be taking part in Star Wars Day with an event of their own. I've been to Flea Land a few times and have been lucky enough to find some good deals on Star Wars collectibles. Along with searching for new action figures, fans at this event can take part in a costume contest, take a photo in the commemorative photo area, and play some trivia. When you get hungry, you can take a break at the "cantina" and enjoy some Death Star Funnel Cake and Bantha Milkshakes.

Lexington

If you're willing to travel for some fun, the City of Lexington will be hosting their Star Wars Day Celebration at McConnell Springs Park. Along with Star Wars-themed activities, guests will also have the option to dine at a large selection of food trucks. If you're worried about missing the Kentucky Derby, no worries. Organizers have assured fans that the event will be wrapped up before the horses hit the track.

Along with all of these spectacular events, Lucasfilm has announced that they're re-releasing Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace in theaters for a limited time in honor of the film's 25th anniversary. Several area movie theaters are planning screenings, and I can assure you, I'll be at one of them. Sure, I've seen it probably 200 times, but I've never seen it on the big screen, so I'm going. If you too want to celebrate the franchise in honor of May 4, you won't have to go to a galaxy far, far away to do it.
