Toyota Manufacturing announced earlier today a new program for Indiana students called the Advance Manufacturing Technician program.

The program will allow students to attend classes at Vincennes University (without acquiring any college debt) and at the same time, work for TMMI for a starting wage of $17 per hour with raises based on their academic success.

“The career with the highest number of unfilled positions nationally is skilled technicians,” said VU President Richard Helton. “Students leaving this program will have a combination of high quality training and real work experience.”

Those 20 students selected for the 2013 program will attend classes at Vincennes University three days a week and work at Toyota two days. “They’ll actually job shadow and be assigned to project in different areas of our plant,” said TMMI President Norm Bafunno. “Working side by side with existing maintenance team members.”

After students complete the program, they will receive degree that they can use to pursue either an engineering degree or a team member position with Toyota.
