The Evansville Wartime Museum shared a sad post that they will be closed for an unknown amount of time.

Evansville's History with WWII

Evansville has a long history with WWII. Thousands of P-47 Thunderbolt planes were built here, and a shipyard operated along the Ohio River to build LSTs. Evansville's involvement with the war effort earned our city the designation of an American World War II Heritage City in 2022. Evansivlle's involvement in WWII was vital, and it's only appropriate that we have a museum here to help preserve this part of Evansville's history.

The Evansville Wartime Museum is located off Petersburg Road and is dedicated to preserving the wartime history of our city.

Evansville Wartime Museum is the place to visit for the surprising, interesting and world-changing story of our community's involvement in winning WWII. The stories we tell come from home front workers and battlefront warriors — these are the people who were there. You can also explore the history of Evansville during WWI, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War in our exhibits dedicated to those times.
Evansville was a center of WWII production. Our community's factories made the products that help our military fight the war on land, on sea and in the air.

The museum is worth visiting, as our city's history during this period is fascinating. However, you'll have to wait a bit before going as the museum has had to close due to unforeseen circumstances.

Evansville Wartime Museum Suffers Major Storm Damage

On April 2nd, 2024 in the early morning the Evansville area was hit by a large storm that produced strong winds and even tornadoes (this is still waiting to be confirmed by the NWS). Unfortunately, this storm hit the Evansville Wartime Museum and it suffered some serious damage. The Evansville Wartime Museum took to Facebook to share photos of the damage and announce that they will be closed for the unforeseeable future. This closure also includes their upcoming solar eclipse event.

Due to heavily sustained damage the museum will be closed and all events are canceled into the unforseen future.
