Nothing says spring like doing a little fishing, and now, thanks to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Evansville residents can take full advantage of their rods n’ reels without a fishing license starting this weekend.
According to representatives for the DNR, the agency is set to work this spring and summer to further develop a program called “GoFishIn in the City,” where they plan to stock selected lakes in well-maintained, family friendly city parks with some 5,000 “catchable-size” channel catfish, which were raised by inmates of Terre Haute’s Federal Correctional Complex.
Because of this program, Evansville residents will be able to enjoy Free Fishing Days at Garvin Park and Diamond Valley Park, on the city’s north side, starting with the first-ever free fishing day on Saturday April 20. On these specific days, Indiana residents will be permitted to fish in designated areas without a fishing license, but all other fishing regulations will still apply.
