When you think of police officers, adult men and women in blue or black uniforms are usually the first images that pop into your head. However, most departments, including our own Evansville Police Department, also have a few four-legged officers on the force, and it turns out, they're really good at what they do.

The EPD sent four of their K-9 teams to the United States Police Canine Association (USPCA) Region 5 Field Trials in Lexington, Kentucky last week, and swept the top four spots across the board.

Officers Zach Elfreich and his partner Axel brought home first place (for the third straight year), followed by Officers Nick Henderson and Qaos in second place, Officers Jason Thomas and Abot in third, and Officers Doug Buetel and Gero nabbing fourth.

The group competed against other K9 units from Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio in drills that tested obedience, agility, evidence search, suspect search, and criminal apprehension.

Congrats to all four eight officers on a job well done, and thank you for not only representing the city well, but dedicating your lives to keeping it safe.
