One of the great NFL linebackers of the modern era is dead. Junior Seau, former San Diego Chargers great committed suicide today at his Oceanside, California home he was 43. Police responed to Seau's home after a reported gunshot in the residence around 10am PDT. At 12:32 p.m. PDT, police confirmed that Seau was dead from a single gunshot wound. It was reported yesterday that Seau sent text messages to his ex-wife and three children, but they did not suspect anything was wrong. The texts read simply, "Love you."

Seau was one of the most productive linebackers in NFL history, drafted by the San Diego Chargers out of the University of Southern California. Seau played more than 20 years with the Chargers, Miami Dolphins and New England Patriots.

In 2010, Seau was arrested for attacking his girlfriend which later led to a traffic accident that many believed was a suicide attempt, but Seau said the accident occurred because he fell asleep at the wheel.

Seau will also be remebered for his many charitable causes for children in the San Diego Area.
