The big news had been circulating this week that an American Idol contestant would be let go because of a sketchy past.  We found out lat night that it was Jermaine Jones (if that is his real name).

The award for most uncomfortable moment since Steven Tyler called a 15 year old hot in front of her father...the sit down with Jermaine and the producers to tell him he had outstanding warrants and he was off the show.  So much for the church goin' mama's boy huh?

Well, with that happening, I really have to wonder if anyone will be eliminated tonight.  My guess would be no.  They want us to think that they are "in danger" of going home, but it won't happen.  That being said, I will still give my synopsis as if the eliminations were taking place.

Most folks are touting the amazing performance from Joshua Ledet...which WAS pretty dang amazing.  But, I want to showcase the guy who I think did a crazy good job, despite his kidney stone surgery just days ago, and that's Phillip Phillips.

So, the contestants were instructed to sing songs from the year they were born.  Not only did this make me feel extremely old, but it also brought out interesting choices, considering 3 of the singers used songs that were covers from other songs put out much earlier.  I don't know how you have a full 365 days of songs being released and pick a bad song, but it happened.  That being said, here's may predictions for tonight's results.

Safe For Sure:

Joshua - All the judges got up like they were at a concert when he belted "When A Man Loves A Woman."  He's golden this week.

Hollie - I've liked this girl from the beginning and I really though she had a voice like Celine Dion.  Lo and behold, she chose to sing, "The Power of Love" this week and nailed it!

Phillip - Some people can get the mercy vote from surgery, but Phillip won't need it, since he picked the perfect song in "Hard To Handle."

On the Fence:

Colton - He's got the looks, the voice, and the mass appeal to be safe, the only thing against him this week, was his obscure White Lion song.

Elise - She had a bad week last week, but rebounded well with the Al Green classic, "Let's Stay Together."

Erika - I think she has picked songs better than anyone else this year.  Bryan Adams' "Heaven" was a great fit, and I think she's only getting better.

Skylar - Our country girl just kind of fit this week.  She didn't really stand out, but she had a nice rendition of her Bonnie Raitt tune.

Jessica - The darling of last week, had a generic performance of Gloria Estefan's "Turn The Beat Around" this week to put her dangerously close to the bottom three.

Bottom Three:

Shannon - Another poor choice, after cracking on Whitney last week, she goes with Mariah this week.  She was OK, but not great on "One Sweet Day."

Deandre - This guy just won't go away, as much as I want him to, but he will hit the bottom three after his low key solo performance of "Endless Love."

Heejun - Comparatively, he did pretty good.  Judges hated on his Richard Marx, "Right Here Waiting," but I liked it.  I think he's become a one trick pony though...not good for him.

As I said, I think Ryan Seacrest will string us along until the end, when he tells us no one is going home this week.
