As a child of the 90's, I not only grew up listening to country music, but I had my pop/rock phase too. I think that it is safe to say that all of us listen to different genres of music. The other day, my friend and I were listening to some 90's pop songs and it got me thinking about the music. You and I can both agree that country music has a new sound nowadays. A little bit "poppy" if you will. Could some of those pop songs that we grew up listening to in the 90's pass for country songs today?

The answer to that question (in my opinion) is yes! I mean think about it, there were quite a few pop songs back in the day that were also recorded by country artists. Who would have ever guessed that Alabama would record and NSYNC song...but they did with "God Must've Spent A Little More Time On You." Or how about the John Michael Montgomery and All 4 One crossovers "I Swear" and "I Can Love You Like That." It's not too unlikely to think that some of those older 90's pop songs could pass for country songs.

So, I have compiled a list of songs that I think could be country songs today. Not only that, but I have included who I think should record them. Now these are all hypothetical, but crazier things have happened in the world of music! Check out this list and let me know what you think.

    Closing Time- Semisonic

"Closing Time" was a huge hit in the 90's. Can you imagine what it would sound like with Eric Church recording it today?

  • 2

Kiss Me- Sixpence None The Richer

This was the song that got me thinking about this topic. It already sounds like a current country song. Add someone like Kelsea Ballerini to the vocals and it's a hit!

I Only Wanna Be With You- Hootie and the Blowfish

This is just a nobrainer...Darius Rucker releasing this to country radio would be epic!

  • 4

Come To My Window- Melissa Etheridge

I think Maren Morris would be a great fit for this hit! Her soulful voice would make Melissa Etheridge proud.

  • 5

I Want It That Way- Backstreet Boys

Now, I know they have already done some stuff with Florida Georgia Line, but I think Luke Bryan would be a good fit for this song.

  • 6

    Name- Goo Goo Dolls

I can hear Sam Hunt singing this song. How about you?

  • 7

End of the Road- Boys II Men

    Chris Stapleton...need I say more?

  • 8

    Ironic- Alanis Morissette

Miranda Lambert could have some fun with this one!

  • 9

    Everlong- Foo Fighters

The Zac Brown Band already have a great connection to Dave Grohl. Why not let them try out the Foo Fighters smash hit?

  • 10

My Heart Will Go On- Celine Dion

If any country artist could do this song justice, it would be Carrie Underwood!

  • 11

    Truly, Madly, Deeply- Rascal Flatts

Rascal Flatts has to do this one!

  • 12

One Sweet Day- Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men

Could Lady Antebellum have fun with this song? I think so!

  • 13

    3 AM- Matchbox 20

With the powerhouse vocals that Brett Eldredge has, there's no reason why he couldn't have a great rendition of this song!

  • 14

    Hey Jealously- Gin Blossoms

Add Blake Shelton and a country spin to this song and I think it is a hit!

  • 15

    Tearin' Up My Heart- NSYNC

Thomas Rhett could have fun with this one.

  • 16

    Meet Virgina- Train

I think Brett Young's voice is a great fit for a country version of this classic Train hit. Maybe even a slower version.

  • 17

You Were Meant For Me- Jewell

This song has Little Big Town all over it!

  • 18

    She's So High- Tal Bachman

Keith Urban's vocals and guitar skills would be a great pairing for this song.

  • 19

    Fly- Sugar Ray

Can you hear Florida Georgia Line singing this song?

    Fly Away- Lenny Kravitz

Lenny and Jason have already teamed up to preform "American Woman" which makes me think that Jason Aldean would be a great fit for this song!
