On Tuesday, Owensboro Mayor Ron Payne was given authorization by the City Commissioners to bring the IceMen to the Sportscenter. Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke commented on the move through his Twitter account and during conversations with the media following the press conference announcing the team's move.

In what appears to be another step toward a divorce between the City of Evansville and the IceMen, Mayor Lloyd Winnecke held a press conference on Thursday to announce (among other things) the City is exploring the option of bringing in another hockey team now that lease negotiations with the IceMen have reached an "impasse".

The Evansville Icemen announced today in the first off-season press conference that the Icemen will be moving up to the ECHL (East Coast Hockey league) for the 2012-2013 season that begins in October. The annoucement was made with Icemen owner Ron Geary and ECHL Commissioner Brian McKenna. This is a big step up for the Icemen both in terms of exposure and level of play.
