Old Dominion made the 2019 ACM Awards a little sweeter with their current single, "Make It Sweet." The country band performed the song live during the Sunday night (April 7) awards show, which took place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nev.

The Group of the Year winners played their summer anthem after Little Big Town's performance. Lead singer Matthew Ramsey sported a gold lamé jacket. The band was in full swing, executing the love song effortlessly as stars in the audience sang along.

Old Dominion say that, when they wrote and recorded "Make It Sweet," they'd planned to write and record a song in one day, but hadn't discussed with each other "what we wanted the next step for our band to be."

"What happened was something we could never have planned. The words fell out, and the next thing we knew, we had recorded “Make It Sweet,"" they explain. "It’s raw and natural and 100 percent us. We are so proud and grateful to have the opportunity to share such a meaningful moment with the world."

"Make It Sweet" comes from Old Dominion's forthcoming third studio album, the details of which have yet to be announced. To The Boot, Ramsey notes, "We all feel confident in what we're doing, the songs and the parts that we're playing, so I think that's really gonna come across and make these songs shine, because, I think, for the first time, we all feel pretty much at home in what we're doing."

Old Dominion's live television appearance during the 2019 ACM Awards continues quite a run for the five-piece band. "Make It Sweet" became the group's seventh-straight single to crack the Country Airplay Top 5. This incredible streak of success dates back to 2015's No. 1 hit "Break Up With Him" -- a likely boost for their 2016 selection as the ACM's New Vocal Duo or Group of the Year.

Old Dominion are twice consecutive winners of Group of the Year at the ACM Awards, this year nominated against four-time winners Little Big Town and three-time honorees Lady Antebellum. Fellow bands on the rise Midland and Lanco were both in the running, as well.
