Miranda Lambert on Heartbreak: ‘I Can Use It for My Art’
Miranda Lambert opened up to fans onstage during her concert in Knoxville, Tenn., this week, revealing she's using heartbreak to inspire music.
Lambert performed at the Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville on Thursday (March 1), and she addressed the audience before launching into a solo acoustic performance of "Tin Man."
“I make it my mission every single time I step on the stage that no matter what, no matter where I am, I want to make you feel everything you could possibly feel,” Lambert told the audience, according to Knox News.
"I want you to feel sad, mad, happy and nostalgic and really pissed sometimes. That's my favorite. And part of feelings is also heartbreak unfortunately, but fortunately for me, I can use it for my art or whatever. I like to write sad songs. I like to listen to sad songs, so I want to sing y'all one," she added.
Lambert's comments have touched off a fresh round of speculation about her relationship with singer-songwriter Anderson East, after reports and rumors that they have broken up. In Touch Weekly was first to share the news of a breakup, but the tabloid gave very few confirmed details. The couple of two years have not addressed the rumors publicly.
The most recent shot of them together on Lambert's Instagram came on Jan. 12. She liked a post on East's Instagram on Feb. 18, which marks the most recent interaction between the pair online. According to People, East no longer follows Lambert on Instagram.
East appeared on the Bobby Bones Show on Thursday, where he performed a song titled "If You Keep Leaving Me." Bones did not ask any questions about Lambert or the rumored breakup.
Taste of Country has reached out to representatives for both Lambert and East about the reports. Lambert's reps have not responded, while East's declined to comment.
"Tin Man" was inspired by Lambert's divorce from Blake Shelton in 2015. The heartbreak ballad was the third single from Lambert's most recent album, The Weight of These Wings.
Lambert's Knoxville concert comes as part of her Livin' Like Hippies Tour, which features Jon Pardi as her support act. She will hit the road with Little Big Town later in the year for their joint Bandwagon Tour, which begins in July.
