The Evansville Zoo is now the new foster home to a couple of Mexican wolf pups.

Earlier last week, the extremely rare, male cubs were transported to Mesker Park Zoo, after being born under risky conditions in New York.

Zoo officials say that while the pups’ mother had given birth to several liters, the pair is all that survived. There are currently only about 300 Mexican wolves living in the world.

The pups will be bottled fed until they are introduced to, and hopefully fostered by, other wolves at the zoo.  Incidentally, the wolves are expected to be on display within the next six weeks.
