The power of Justin Moore's new single "The Ones That Didn't Make It Back Home" goes beyond the men and women of the military and those in blue. It extends to the families of shooting victims — those who lost their lives at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., in Feb. 2018.

Moore had the honor of playing for the victims' families last year, and it hit too close for him as a father of four.

“I take and drop my kids off at school every day, and the first thing that I think about and pray about is that when I go to pick them up they’re going to be fine," he tells Taste of Country Nights during a recent interview (skip ahead to 9:30 in the video above). "So that one hit me pretty hard as a father.”

Rolling Stone says Moore actually donated $30,000 to the high school during a concert that came about seven months after 17 students and staff members were killed when a gunman opened fire.

“I got to meet all the victims' families, which was a huge honor and a blessing but really difficult," he recalls. "You’re face to face with these folks who have just had to deal with unfathomable circumstances and loss. But the fact that a song like this helps them in some tiny little way is a blessing. I just feel blessed that for whatever reason that idea dropped in my head."

"The Ones That Didn't Make It Back Home" is close to becoming Moore's seventh No. 1 hit on the Billboard Country Airplay chart. It's the lead single from his new Late Nights and Longnecks album, released in July.

Moore's full interview aired live on Facebook and YouTube Live, as well as on 70 Taste of Country stations on Thursday night (Aug. 29). He also candidly talked about how unimpressed his kids and community are by what he does for a living and how his daughters are starting to love '90s rap music.

Taste of Country Nights hosts Evan Paul and Amber even got him to rap a little bit, which is amazing giving his thick Arkansas accent! Find that portion of the interview at about 5:30.
