American Airlines Flight 5342 Collides with Military Helicopter

As I was heading to bed last night, I saw the breaking news of a passenger plane carrying 60 passengers and 4 crew collided mid-air with a military helicopter carrying 3 soldiers. The soldiers were performing training exercises - Much like the C-130 was doing in Evansville. I just went numb. This flight was only 2 hours and 45 minutes. Everyone was so close to landing, even letting loved ones know they would be home soon.

Flight Crosses Illinois and Indiana

This flight is a regular destination flying in and out of Wichita to Reagan National Airport. The flight plan actually passes through parts of Illinois and into Southern Indiana. It's just so sad to think about all of the lives lost in what is normally a routine flight.

Latest Update:

Last night we were hopeful that the over 300 rescuers would find some of the victims alive. I even tuned in to hear police scanner traffic, but much of the information was not shared over the air. As it stands, no survivors have been located.

The CEO of the Skating Club of Boston shared a heartbreaking update. 14 skaters were returning home from a training camp in Wichita, Kansas.

See Inside a 1928 Passenger Airplane AND See Owensboro from Way Up in the Sky

I was fortunate enough to be a passenger aboard a 1928 Ford Tri-Motor 5-AT-B Transcontinental Air Transport. We flew all the way around Owensboro.  It was amazing to get a bird's-eye view of the city from inside such a beautiful old aircraft.
