Brewing Winter Storm Takes Aim on Western KY and Southern IN
After an unseasonably mild holiday season, our weather fortunes are about to change here in western Kentucky and southern Indiana. The National Weather Service says a brewing winter storm has the potential to dump snow or a combination of snow and ice on the Tristate area.
Here's the post from the Paducah office made early Monday morning (Dec 30th).
Obviously, the most alarming part of the sneak peek is the part that reads- "Significant winter precipitation appears likely somewhere." If you're a snow lover, you're probably loving that news. If you're like me and could go the rest of your life without seeing snow, you're probably coiling in overly-dramatic horror.
There is a touch of good news- even though we're still days away from impact and fortunes could shift. Eyewitness News Meteorologist Ron Rhodes says that some models are showing that the snow will mix with rain here in our neck of the woods. If that's the case, that would greatly diminish the amount of wintry precipitation we get.
As Ron says, the initial impact of the approaching winter storm will be Saturday night. As of this morning, the National Weather Service's forecast reads like this for the weekend.
Saturday night: A chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 21. Light and variable wind becoming east 5 to 7 mph after midnight.
Sunday: Rain and snow likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 36. Southeast wind 7 to 10 mph.
Obviously, we'll keep you posted as the possible winter storm continues to take shape and we can better determine the potential impacts on the Tristate area.
