Did Shaboozey Wear an Owensboro Jersey On Stage at Railbird?

This past weekend was a big one for country music lovers in the Bluegrass State. Folks at the 2025 Railbird Festival in Lexington, Kentucky, spent two days listening to some of the biggest and best acts around.

Name-Drop Time: Railbird 2025 Line-up

Big names like Lainey Wilson, Jelly Roll, Riley Green, Bailey Zimmerman, Shaboozey, and Red Clay Strays were at the top of the lineup, but even the acts in smaller print are incredible talents. Sierra Ferrell, Cody Jinks, and local band Ole 60 absolutely killed their sets. Shout out to Ole 60 for hitting platinum with their song Smoke & a Light!

Railbird 2025 FOMO

Shaboozey took the stage on Saturday. He skyrocketed to fame last year with his country version of J-Kwon's Tipsy. He has features on Beyonce's Cowboy Carter, a duet with Jelly Roll, and is back on the charts with his catchy summer song, Good News. I followed the Railbird social media posts like a hawk because I was having some serious FOMO, so I saw this next set of photos and my jaw dropped.

As a very proud 2005 graduate of Owensboro Senior High School, I was stopped in my tracks. Is that a nod to our beloved Red Devils? I realize that is a common font for sports gear, but it matches some throwback OHS merch perfectly.

How Many U.S. Schools Have Red Devil Mascots?

I also realize that OHS is not the only school with a Red Devil mascot. According to Massey Ratings, there are over 120 schools across the country that root for a horned heathen. HOWEVER! Only TWO of the schools are in Kentucky, where Shaboozey performed. Russell High School in Ashland and...Owensboro Senior High.

American Football or English Football?

Then I got to thinking, what if it is not an American football jersey? What if Shaboozey is a Manchester United fan? Their nickname has been the Red Devils as long as I can remember.

How Did Shaboozey Get His Stage Name?

I don't know whether Shaboozey ever played soccer, but I know he played football for his alma mater, Gar-Field Senior High School in Woodbridge, Virginia. Shaboozey's Nigerian parents actually named him Collins Obinna Chibueze.  He came up with his stage name after dealing with a football coach who could never pronounce his given name correctly. In Igbo, it means "God is king."

Thrifted Clothing Trends

Everybody loves thrifted shirts and jerseys. My guess is, Shaboozey or his fab stylist found this for him somewhere. I did shoot my shot and sent him a message. Fingers crossed, he will fill me in on the back story. Either way, I'm gonna pretend he knows the phrase "F.I.L.D."

If he only knew how the halls of OHS once echoed with J-Kwon's version of Tipsy. I feel like Shaboozey should be an honorary Red Devil just for keeping that song alive.
