Evansville Seniors Serve Star Power in Hollywood Glamour Shots

Life Enrichment Coordinator, Katelin McKinney, shared, "At North River, we host a 'themed week' each quarter full of activities, exquisite meals, and entertainment centered around one main theme. This quarter, our theme was “A Hollywood Gala,” and what could be more Hollywood than getting all dolled up and striking a pose?"

Opportunities to put on a sparkly dress or sharp suit coat and top hat for a professional "glamour shot" don't come around every day, but a photo shoot is more than just a fun time. "With these photos, we are helping our residents regain their confidence and solidify their self-worth, and that’s incredibly important for our seniors," Katelin said.

"Activities in long-term care are often associated with Bingo or crafts, but as a Recreational Therapist, it is paramount to me that we do not merely keep our residents busy, but rather provide opportunities to give meaning to their day and enrich their lives every chance we get!"

As Kayla from Kayla Vines Photography set up her equipment, the vibe in the dressing room was "absolutely electric." North River staff and resident family members were part of the hair and makeup glam squad. They also brought in their fanciest accessories and clothes so residents could borrow them for the pictures.

Katelin told me that the gasps and smiles as they each looked in the mirror will stay with her forever. "One resident said, 'I’ve never felt as beautiful as I did today.' Another asked, 'Is that me?' We hope our residents and their families can look at these photos with pride and admiration, as so many others have!"
