Know a Teen Who is Ready to Work? Here Are the Owensboro Businesses That Hire Them
When I was in middle school, my dad opened up a meat shop, deli, bakery, catering service, hang out spot. Which meant, I got my first job.
Taking orders, running the register, making sandwiches, doing dishes, making hamburger patties, weighing turkey and cheese, cleaning, stocking cases, I learned how to do it ALL. My parents always wanted school to be my main focus, and it was, but a gal needed to make her own money!
I am still so grateful for all the times I once complained about having to clock in and cook soup or clean up after customers. That first job is important for teens to learn independence, responsibility, and hard work. Luckily, for teens in Owensboro, there are plenty of options when it comes to businesses hiring younger workers.
Local community leader, DeMarcus Curry, understands that VERY well. He has been an advocate for teens for years. Not only is he encouraging to them, but he also makes things happen for them. He's been hosting job fairs at the library and events to help find teen-friendly jobs.
"This is the list I created a few years ago when I started the first Teen Job Fair event. Sarah Jacobs, from the library, is actually the one who created a spreadsheet so we can separate the jobs they hire by age." So handy!

If you know a teen looking for a job, or you are a teen looking for a job, here are the Owensboro businesses that will hire folks ages 14+, 15+, and 16+:
As you can see, there are a LOT of places hiring for 16+, but the businesses that hire younger teens would be great places to work as a first job. Some local, some larger, all full of life lessons! If you know of any missing from this list, please let me know!
