Don’t Fall Victim to the Latest USPS Text Scam Circulating Illinois
We should all know better by now, but I nearly fell victim to a new package delivery text scam the other day, and I don't want the same thing to happen to you.
New USPS Text Scam Circulating Illinois
Here's one thing I can guarantee about me; if you call or text me from a number I don't recognize, I will not answer or respond...ever. My notorious call screening usually saves me from phone scammers, BUT, when I have been waiting for over two weeks for Japanese Beetle traps I desperately need to arrive, receiving a text about a delivery issue almost had me falling hook, line, and sinker into the scammer's trap.
This is the text I received last week...
I knew the package I have been waiting would be coming via USPS, so at first glance it looked legit. Then I looked at the link and read the last line and determined this text is about as legitimate as a pony delivering your Amazon order. (I'm sorry USPS, but you have never been that polite).
Here are some important reminders we all need to hear again about receiving texts like the one above...
- If you receive a text saying something a USPS delivery issue that includes a link to click, DON'T DO IT! Clicking it will probably send you to fake website designed solely to steal your most important personal info like your social security number, credit card details, etc.
- If you are concerned about the delivery of a USPS package, ALWAYS track it via usps.com. (Make sure you use the tracking number you received from the seller, not a shady text with a link!)
- The USPS does not text about deliveries, especially not with links. They're more likely to leave a note in your mailbox or on your front door if something's funky about the delivery.
Remember, Illinois, if a text about a package seems fishy, it probably is. Stay vigilant and keep your personal information safe!
