Communities and neighborhoods that have more wealth are known for their laid-back lifestyles, and recent findings are proving this trend.
Most Relaxed Cities in America: Where Wealth and Wellness Meet
While the median household income in the U.S. stands at approximately $75,000, the top 10 cities on the list of 'Most Relaxed' have a median income of $121,000 or more.
According to the study from Lawnstarter.com, this financial advantage contributes to a more relaxed lifestyle, with fewer stressors and better access to wellness resources.

The study assessed 500 major U.S. cities by evaluating factors crucial to relaxation and well-being. Metrics across these eight categories were analyzed: Mental Well-Being, Mental Health Boosters, Physical Well-Being, Financial Well-Being, Work Stressors, Environmental Stressors, Social Stressors, and Recreation Options.
According to Lawnstarter, each city’s overall score, derived from these factors, determined its ranking in terms of relaxation and quality of life.
California Cities Lead in Relaxation and Wellness
California cities dominate the top ranks for the most relaxed living, with 86 Golden State cities appearing in the top half of the ranking. Notably, Los Angeles (No. 146) leads with 632 yoga studios, promoting physical and mental well-being.
On the other end of the spectrum, Michigan and Ohio cities, including Dayton (No. 498) and Detroit (No. 499), face significant challenges.
Dayton reports the highest mental distress and drug overdose rates, while Detroit struggles with high blood pressure and stroke rates. Flint, Michigan, falls at the bottom with alarming rates of smoking, inadequate sleep, and poverty.
Many Midwest Cities Struggle to Relax, But Not Some Illinois Towns
A couple of Illinois cities ranked high on the list, including one village in the Top 5.
With high scores for Mental Well-Being and Financial Well-Being, Naperville was ranked as the 5th Most Relaxed in the U.S.
Arlington Heights was America's 40th Most Relaxed in America, even with the stress of the Bears moving into their town, or are they not?
Evanston, Illinois also hit the list at 43 with a high Mental Well-Being and Mental Health Boosters Rank.
