The closure dates for the Rivertown Trail Bridge in Newburgh, Indiana have been changed.

Warranty Repairs Planned for the Rivertown Trail Red Bridge

According to a press release from the Town of Newburgh, the Warrick County Historic Bridge #264, known locally as the Rivertown Trail Red Bridge, will be closed for warranty repairs.

Repairs Were Made to the Bridge in 2023

In 2022, the town of Newburgh received $100,000 from Warrick County’s American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) fund to help with the restoration of the bridge. The following year renovations were made to the bridge including fresh paint, repairs to the pinning system, and new planking.

Repairs Came with a Warranty and the Town of Newburgh Is Putting It to Use

Those renovations included a warranty period, and the town of Newburgh has asked the contractor to return and repair planking that has raised since the completion of the 2023 renovations.

The bridge is part of the Rivertown Trail that spans 3.84 miles from Pollack Avenue to the Newburgh Locks and Dam. Warrick County Historic Bridge, #264 is a pony truss built in 1920 that once spanned Cypress Creek on Warner Road and was included in the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.

Rivertown Trail Red Bridge Closure Dates

The contractor is expected to arrive onsite on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 and that closure will now take place Wednesday, September 4 - Thursday, September 5, 2024. As long as the weather cooperates, the project is expected to be completed and the bridge reopened to pedestrians by Friday, September 6, 2024.
