This is the worst kind of surprise if you're a believer in democracy and enthusiastically want to let your voice be heard in an election. The Illinois Secretary of State has revealed that 5,400 Illinois voters were not registered due to a technical error at Department of Motor Vehicle centers.

I just received an email from Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias office revealing that 5,400 Illinois voters were not added to the voting rolls due to a coding error that dates back to 2019 connected to Real ID identification.

There is some good news as a result of this investigation according to this statement provided:

“Fortunately, we discovered the problem and fixed it so no qualified voter who applied is disenfranchised in the upcoming presidential election,” Giannoulias said. “We have also updated the review process for applicants registering to vote when they get their REAL IDs and added additional safeguards to ensure no errors occur moving forward.”

This error was found when the Secretary of State's Office was working to update the technology in voter registration apparently.

How can you be certain that you're registered to vote in Illinois?

You don't need to take the word of the state of Illinois that you're accurately registered to vote. You can check the state's online portal yourself to make sure that the system has not overlooked you.
