I don't mean this as any offense Illinois, but I've never envisioned the state as a superhero. Perhaps I should as a report says the federal government is giving the state of Illinois $430 million dollars to save the world - more or less.

I saw WBEZ share this report about money that is incoming to Illinois from the United States government. It says that Illinois is being given $430 million dollars to help fund climate change efforts. They say this money originating from the United States Environmental Protection Agency will be used to "curb greenhouse gas emissions by electrifying vehicles, accelerating clean energy workforce training and retrofitting buildings".

Where is all this money for Illinois coming from?

The report says it's the Climate Pollution Reduction Grant program which has given $4.3 billion dollars to 25 different "entities".  It goes on to say that Illinois got all the grant money it requested and it will be given to the state over the next 5 years.

One interesting last note about this grant money coming to Illinois is the $111 million intended to motivate farmers to make changes to how they grow crops. With many in my family who are farmers, it will be interesting how they respond to these "incentives".

Will this $430 million being given to Illinois by the feds really save the world? I guess time (and emissions reduction perhaps) will tell the tale.
