They say that Sauk Village, Illinois is the most dangerous small town in America and there are numbers to back that claim up. Wikipedia says this small Illinois place has just 9,921 residents. There's a lot of history in this part of the state with Native Americans occupying the land near Lake Michigan, but modern times have not been kind to Sauk Village.

Neighborhood Scout says the normal crime rate for Illinois is 2.87 for every 100,000 people. In Sauk Village, Illinois, the crime rate is a terrifying 36.54.
