In light of this morning's deadly outbreak of tornadoes throughout the midwest in which at least 13 people have been killed, now would be  good time to make sure you and your family are prepared for an emergency, especially a natural disaster. It almost sounds like a cliche when you talk about having a plan at home and how to best execute that plan, but we learned again this morning how important preparedness is. The local chapters of the American Red Cross are great resources for information and tips on being prepared and keeping your family safe.

The time to put a plan together is now. Once you formulate your plan, gather the family and practice executing that plan so everybody knows what to do, especially the children. If you need help putting the essentials together, click here for step by step instructions from the American Red Cross.
