Every year, we have the Coat A Kid program in the Evansville area that provides warm coats for kids who might otherwise go without. The below video brings the importance of that message home in a very big way. Can you imagine a child sitting at a bus stop with no coat shivering on a cold winter day? The video is an experiment set up in Norway by the Norwegian branch of the SOS Children's Villages International charity in order to draw attention to a campaign to provide warm clothing for children in war-torn Syria.

They put an 11-year-old boy at a bus stop on a cold winter day with no coat. The boy, as you can imagine, sat shivering as people passed by. The purpose of the experiment was to see how people would react to this.

They reacted as anyone would hope they would. Most of the bystanders offered the little boy their own coats, gloves and scarves to help keep him warm. Honestly, I almost didn't watch the video because I was afraid the people would just ignore this little guy. I did watch and I'm glad I did.

I came away with the knowledge that I will NEVER let another season go by without making a donation to the Coat A Kid program here locally. That kid could be  anyone of our sons. I also have a much greater sympathy for those kids in Syria, which is a violent war zone right now.
